Education at the Colorado Lagoon
Education at the Colorado Lagoon has been occurring for centuries, if not millennia. Part of the historic Los Cerritos Wetlands which once encompassed over 2400 acres, the Colorado Lagoon was undoubtedly a place of exploration for our local Native Peoples, the Tongva. In more recent times, modern Long Beachians have been utilizing the Lagoon as a place for recreation and leisure. FOCL believes that education should be fun!
FOCL started programming at the lagoon in January of 2006 with the opening of the Wetlands and Marine Science Education Center (WAMSEC). The WAMSEC has been the hub for our involvement at the Colorado Lagoon since then.
The Colorado Lagoon is an incredibly dynamic site with the ability to host multiple educational events. If you or your group is interested in organizing an educational adventure at the Lagoon, please contact our educational committee at: [email protected].
* Currently all programming at the lagoon has been suspended due to COVID19. We look forward to hosting you in person again in the future.

LEARNING AT HOME RESOURCES
In the meantime, we want to offer some resources that will make you feel like you are at the lagoon and that help bring FOCL education programming into your house. As an all-volunteer organization, FOCL has put this together to help our community to feel connected, to remind you of the sense of place we all feel at the lagoon, and to help entertain and educate you at home. Please use these resources with that in mind! We will continue to post materials as time permits. Feel free to sign up for our mailing list to be updated when we do.
